Most SDR job ads are terrible. Here's how to attract the best talent!

SDR Hire Insights

SDR Hire Insights is a weekly newsletter that serves SDRs and those striving to become ones with actionable tips and top notch content.

Most sales job posts look the same - and they suck:

  1. Here’s a little about the company: best in class, world wide, best category, best place to work at, here are all of our awards 🤢
  2. Generic job requirements: expected to do cold calls and cold emails and prospect on linkedin, keep your CRM tidy and have proficiency in tools like … No sh*t I’m supposed to prospect!
  3. Some generic benefits: 401k (if US), challenging and fast paced environment, X number of paid days off (ideally unlimited PTO which means absolutely nothing)
  4. No salary revealed - just saying: competitive salary. Makes me wanna cry.
  5. Bonus cringe: “This is a remote opportunity (*but you will be required to come into the office 2-3 times a week)”

These are all screaming red flags.

This is actually why most B2B marketing and sales fail. They sound: generic, bland and like everybody else.

  1. Nobody really cares about your company - your candidates care about money and career opportunity
  2. Instead of generic job requirements - tell your future SDRs and AEs what they'll be getting themselves into - team, quota, attainment, product
  3. Benefits - tell people what their base and OTE are, then you can talk about other things
  4. Salary - see 3. And also, don't hide the salary.
  5. If it's remote - make it remote. If it's not, don't lie.

These seem like no-brainer things, but most companies create fluffy job ads.
